Starting to get down near wearbands on the rear, tyres appear to be the original Dunlops, TBH I am not that impressed with them in the wet so even though the front is fine i will probably go with a new matched set of tyres, anyone got any recommendations about what suits an fxdxt - someone suggested avon storms or metzler - since this is my first HD I am a little lost as to what the best rubber is for them.

Hi,
I've had both Avon and Metzler on my Wideglide Avon have good road holding characteristics but Metzlers have pretty good road holding with good mileage, so the choice is yours. You can buy either over the web at good prices but then you have to have them fitted and balanced. Try Delticom for prices.

On the wide glide I used Pirelli Route 66 for a while and liked them a lot but Sillets found them hard to get so changed to Bridgestone Battlax BT45R. I can recommend both as a compromise between grip and wear. (5000 miles for the rear tyre)

As I've said on another thread I didn't like the standard tyres much either.

Oddly enough, I'd recommend a mix of Avon Roadrunner (for front) and metzler for the rear. The Avon is very sticky and the metzler is "sticky enough" with extra mileage. I've found both to be very good in the rain, in all temperatures (we had 4 deg - 38 deg on one ride in Spain). That works well for me on the Wide Glide which tends to carry heavy luggage, a pillion, and tows a trailer :-)

Hey Dez,

Why don't you tell us how good the Meztelers are on muddy grass ?

Mine worked brilliantly, how were yours ? :D
