Jim - if it's the one off the Custom model, I think it's 14 litres. From memory, I used to get about 130 miles out of mine before the warning light came on with 4 litres left.

I believe they come off the custom model the MO CO calls the broad shoulder

There are 3 sizes of Sportster Tank:

72 and 48 models have the 7.9 ltr (small Peanut)
Iron Nightster, Etc have the 12.5 ltr (large Peanut)
and the Customs have the 17.5 ltr (tear drop shaped)

My 883 Iron with the 12.5 ltr tank does 80 to 110 miles depending on route and riding style before the light comes on and there's usually another 3 to 4 ltr in the tank at that point.
