As those of you that have attended the last two Dunedin Chapter Meetings will know, we are planning a tour of the UK and Irish Dealerships to collect a Dealership and Chapter Pin.
The Pins will be mounted on to a backing of the Chapter tartan and framed. The idea is to auction this off at Aviemore this year. We are looking for @ 8 experienced riders to make the trip starting on 13th June. The trip will last a 8 days (Returning Saturday 21st June) and is in aid of the DebRA charity which concerns itself with helping families of people who have E.B. (Epidermolysis Bullosa).
This is a horrific condition that in its most basic form causes sufferers to blister very easily where the rest of us won’t. It generally prevents sufferers from taking part in sporting or any activity that will cause rubbing of the skin. In its most severe form children are born without skin and only survive a matter of hours. Those that suffer the most are the ones that survive and then have a lifetime of constant changes of bandages and pain. Life expectancy of these sufferers is typically cut short by 30-40 years. To find out more please visit http://www.debra.org.uk/aboutebanddebra
We have 6 confirmed riders and are looking for two more to join the tour.
Anyone that is interested in coming on the trip please PM me in the first instance.
Only experienced riders please as the trip will be long, hard and very demanding.
We are also planning to try and get as much sponsorship as possible for the tour. So anyone who wants to come needs to be willing to hound and harass friends and colleagues to raise as much as we can to help DebRA. Weather permitting, we plan to camp.
We will select the riders based on experience and on a first come basis. Already, the following people have confirmed: George McLennan, Steve Collins, Jim Petrie, Jim Anderson, George McGuire and myself Ross Jamieson. Some others have said they are interested but not confirmed yet.
To find out more about the planned route etc visit www.dunedinfordebra.co.uk
Thanks to everyone who has expressed an interest thus far. As a Father and Husband of sufferers with the simplex form of EB, it breaks my heart every time they have to change a bandage.
If you would like to sponsor the riders, please visit the web site and go to the Rider Sponsorship page. this will direct you to one of our corporate sponsors campingandmilitary.co.uk who have kindly let us use their online credit card facility to collect payment.
thanks.
