Not sure about that one mate. The negative is the one connected to the frame. I guess you've thought about connecting the negative end to the connector lead where it fixes to the frame?? Maybe some expert can advise if there's any problem of using any part of the frame which will all be earth ???
Another suggestion is one I found by accident. I needed to rig up a charging arrangenment for my mobile phone for when I'm away camping. Basically its a couple of wires which lead out to a male battery connector you get from Maplins (See here)
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1397&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=battery%20connector&doy=21m4
Some extra wire some solder and heatshrink insulation and you can put it somewhere handy. I then plug in some car type charger bits n bobs to charge the phone. You can add a fuse etc for safety.
The side benefit is if I use the opposite female connector I can plug the charger to the battery without removing the seat on the wide glide. You may want to try something similar.

How you doin ,
Easiest way pos onto pos on battery then find a good earth onto the frame use the seat mount bolt or any readily accesable bolt as long as its direct to the frame.Long as its not one of the rusty ones, had the same prob my self on sat typical on such a braw day.:(

The battery charger I got from the dealer has a drop cable that you attach to the battery and is tiewrapped to the frame down by the bottom of the battery cover and hidden out the way when not in use. Then when you want to charge it you just connect the charger unit to the drop cable and job done. Best solution I've seen given how the battery is shoehorned into the bike and means you dont have to remove anything to charge the battery once you've fitted the cable to the bike.

Hey Lorenzo - same problem with Mandy's 06 Sporty and did the same as Big Stu ............... pos onto the battery and neg onto one of the clean bolts on the frame - worked a treat. Just make sure you get the right charger for the gel battery!
