Hi everyone, this is my first post!
I have booked to go on the Baltic Ride in June advertised in Hog Tales. All very exciting and hopefully an epic adventure through Scandinavia, Russia, The Baltic States ending at the Hamburg Harley Days Knees up. This will be our first tour.
As I start preparing us and the Glide, thoughts turn to "what happens if I get a puncture in the middle of beyond"
I am getting conflicting reports on the success/ safety of getting gloup (forgotten the brand name) inserted into the tyres to keep them inflated when punctured.
Has anyone experienced a puncture having gone through the precaution?

welcome to the mad hoos ma freind, the stuff you seek is called puncture seal
bung it in your front and back and you can nearly forget about your wheels and enjoy your holiday, and your riding for the life of the tyres......

Hi Colin welcome.
Ask bignblue to show you a photo of his tyre after a blow out last year - He had the tyre filled with (if think) Ultra seal - they had a stall at thunder in the glens last year- Anyway after seeing the damaged tyre and the fact that he was able to do a controlled stop which he puts down to the seal in the tyre - I for one was convinced and got it put into mine. Havent had to test out how well it works on my bike ( and I hope a never have to) but feel happier having it in than not.

They put UltraSeal in my tubes down at Langholm last year. Didn't menton any problems with that and I asked). Bonus is you get to keep it, even when you chang eyour tyres, which is great if you're a mean old ba5tard like me....
Some guff here that suggests it might not be all that good in tubed tyres:
Can Ultraseal be used in tyres with tubes?
Yes! Ultraseal will seal wounds in both tube and tubeless tyres as long as there is rubber recovery and it is not a dangerous wound.
A tube is not one of man's most ingenious inventions, and is very unreliable. The tube is basically made of rubber and synthetics. The wall thickness of a tube is not uniform and rubber content is very critical in terms of elasticity and rubber recovery. A tube that does not contain a sufficient amount of natural rubber cannot recover (close up) after sustaining a wound. It is critical that there be rubber recovery to assure a positive secure clot.
by installing Ultraseal into a tube, the problem of punctures can be reduced. The seal in a tube is not permanent. Tubes squirm inside a tyre at high speed if the puncturing object is left in the tyre and tube, it may rip the tube. Then even Ultraseal may not able to help. We recommend that nails be removed on a routine basis and the tyres air pressure be maintained at maximum PSI to reduce the squirming.
When a tube is punctured, the size of the wound in the tube may be much larger than the actual puncturing object; also tubes are very susceptible to ripping.

Hi. I run Gloop in my spoked Roadking which drove to Bosnia & back , and the Electra glide with alloys has ultraseal in them which went round Germany last year.
Both types give a slightly stiffer carcass to the tyre so very slight vibration on undlating roads (concrete motorways in Slovenia) can hardly be noticed.
I do not use it on the Aprilia as some of my mates have experienced wheel unbalance vibration at speeds you really shouldn't be doing, but two of my mates have had punctures to there rear tubeless tyres and put ultrasal in retrospectively which sealed up a 3mm nail hole in each.
I use it because if you get a flat your stuffed, so better with than without.
Luckly i've never had a punture on a bike ever, and i've been biking since 1974.
That's it i'm bound to get one now!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yours
Trapper.

Is this an Ultra Seal sponsored site then ? :-)
I was a fan until last week when ... it didn't stop a sudden flat on my mate's Range Rover (no blow-out either mind you), but that could have been down to the professional "fitter" not putting enough in. Secondly, my Custom Chrome wheels are badly corroded inside (knackered in-fact) - the garage insists the culprit is the very same stuff, which seems to have found a weak spot in the chrome and eaten its way into the rim.
I'm not condemming Ultra Seal - I'm convinced it does stop rapid deflation of bike-tyres, but you might want to have a think if you've invested in expensive wheels !

Of course, having posted that info, I got a puncture not long after.
It was in the rear, and it stayed up long enough that we didn't come off.
This is on tubed tyres, with spoked wheels.
It had a huge clout nail through it, and there's no way of knowing if the Ultraseal helped it stay up a bit longer or not.
However, as they seem to be saying it's not actually recommended for tubed tyres... :|
Of course, it needed a new tube, so no Ultraseal now...
Will I put it in again?
Don't know...
