OK Folks, don't know how many of you made it to Killarney last year for the 1st Ireland Bike Week. I had a great time and met 4 Harley riders on the Troon/Larne ferry and made off with some of their sandwiches - you'll know who you are.. :D

Anyway - does anyone know any details about the 2nd Ireland Bike Week in 2008. I mailed about 2 months ago and was told something would be advertised, but nothing has been yet.

It's getting time to start planning holidays and routes etc and I would like to add this one in. (Been invited to Spain as well so got to be careful when I mention these things to the Mrs..)

I may make it a bit different this year though. Go on the Rosyth ferry, ride down through the north of France, and get the ferry back to Cork..??

Seems a round about way of doing things - but then isn't that why we have Harleys..??

The Ireland Bike Week ( or should I say Weekend ) is being held in Killarney on June 6th - 8th. They have not updated their website, but those are the dates I received from the organizer. I believe the Gleneagle Hotel will be the headquaters again.

That's all I know for now...

Cheers!

.... ooops....:o

Should have updated this post.

Yes, those are the dates. Probably 4 bikes going from Inverness (that I know of). We were going to leave early on the Friday morning, but we are thinking of leaving Thursday night going to Troon Travel Inn, Then Friday Ferry to Larne, and ride down to Killarney. Saturday Fun/Rideout, Sunday, depart Killarney at 0800hrs, home in Inverness by 2300hrs. (550 miles each way = 1100 total). Not too bad in a day though, as you get a couple of hours rest/chat time on the ferry.

If anyone else is interested in either joining us, or even making known that they will be on the ferry, then either PM me, or better still, reply to this post.

I'll be heading down with a group from Co. Mayo, Ireland. As the date nears let's make arrangements to meet.

Got a friend from Killarney to let me have some info on Bed & Breakfast, although we will probably end up in a Hotel. If you want to come with us, then let me know and I when I contact the Hotels or B&B's, I can include you in our numbers. You want a single/twin/double.?? or will you be making your own plans..?

Here the latest information I received from Killarney:

Yes absolutely - it is all still going ahead.

The website will definately be up and running by the end of this week/early
next week. As soon as it is live I will let you know.

There is a great line up of entertainment, all of which is free. The event
if an open event and no registration is required.

There will be plenty to keep all amused with daily ride-outs led by Celtic
Chapter Thunder. Orange County Chopper and Miami Ink - both of Discovery
Channel fame will also be there along with plenty more exhibitors, traders,
dealers etc. A Custom Bike Show is planned for the Saturday and a Charity
Ride through Killarney Town on Sunday 8 June in aid of Muscular Dystrophy
Ireland.

Cheers!

...pity they took so long to get the details out. We've booked our ferries and will now miss the Sunday rideout....!!

It seems they want this to be a big thing, and if so they need to start organising the minute the previous year has ended.

Will now have to try and change the ferry bookings.:(

Those of you who made it I hope you had a greeat time. The event was packed with lots of great looking Harleys both old and new. The custom bike show was great and displayed the talents of many bike builders. The rideouts to Dingle and the Ring of Kerry were fantastic and well run by the Celtic Thunder chapter.
The parade of bikes was well attended and the locals lined th streets to cheer us on. The entertainment was rocking in the evenings.

I did bump into a couple Dunedin Chapter folks and had a chat.

Next year's event is going to be held June 5th - 7th.

Until next ride, ride safe...
