Bikers pay respects to the fallen

Hundreds of motorcyclists have paid their respects to fallen soldiers at a special ceremony in Staffordshire.
Bikers involved in the second annual Ride To The Wall (RTTW) went from Drayton Manor, near Tamworth, to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas.
Andrew Baud, from the Royal British Legion, said people from across the UK were taking part in the event.
"Everybody can be a biker. We have journalists joining us and we have got members of clergy joining us," he said.
Mr Baud added: "We have got riders coming from as far afield as northern Scotland and the tip of Cornwall."
The event was set up by Martin Dickinson last year as a way to remember armed forces personnel who have been killed since World War II and to raise cash for the arboretum.
Organisers said more than 5,000 bikers went to the arboretum for the event.
'Strongly supported'
Dozens of veterans with military medals pinned on to their riding leathers and a major general in uniform were among those at a service of remembrance.
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46527000/jpg/_46527491_44171921.jpg The event raised money for the 150-acre arboretum
Major General Lamont Kirkland, who had ridden his Harley-Davidson from his base in Aldershot, Hampshire, to Alrewas, said he expected the event would grow further.
"I think what you have seen today is the start of something really big - this will grow over time," he said.
"It's deeply emotional and it's deeply poignant - bikers are deeply respectful people.
"It shows we are supported very strongly at home and that the Army has never been held in higher regard."
Mr Dickinson said last year the response to RTTW was "beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of" with an estimated 2,500 motorcyclists taking part.
Last year's event raised more than £10,000 for the 150-acre National Memorial Arboretum.

More than 5,000 bikers converged on the national Armed Forces Memorial today to pay their respects to the servicemen and women killed in the line of duty since World War Two.
The second annual Ride To The Wall (RTTW) attracted motorcyclists from as far away as Penzance, Brighton and northern Scotland to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

Dozens of veterans with military medals pinned to their riding leathers and a Major General in uniform were among those who attended a service of remembrance at the arboretum.
Major General Lamont Kirkland, who had ridden his Harley-Davidson from his base in Aldershot, Hampshire, to Alrewas, tipped the RTTW to become even bigger in future years.

Bikers hit the road for the second annual 'Ride to the Wall' at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire
The attendance at this year's RTTW - more than double the number who joined the inaugural ride - was the largest at the arboretum this year.
It is hoped the event, which featured a fly-past by a Spitfire fighter and the laying of wreaths at the memorial, will raise tens of thousands of pounds for the 150-acre arboretum.

Yep was a great weekend, like last year enjoyed the run down and back home, but especially the ceremony, very moving and it was an awesome sight the Spitfire doing the flyover. Big thanks to Wallace-Jimmer- for taking my bag down in his sidecar, very much appreciated and also to The Instigator-Stevie- for bringing it up most of the way, again very appreciated. Was also good to have Jim and Jock-the soldiers from Glencorse Barracks- with us for the weekend, great couple of guys and had some brill craic with them, l know they enjoyed using the bikes kindly supplied by Edinburgh Harley-Davidson. Also got a great T-shirt from them, but l'm sorry won't make the parade ground for Monday morning at 0700 guys as brings me out in a sweat just thinking about it
Was also well supported by the chapter, great turnout.
cheers Paul

Brilliant weekend, very moving event - even tops last years. I was speaking to some of the organisers in the pub saturday night - over 6000 bikes counted in, many of them 2 up, a lot more attendees than last years event. The addition of the spitfire was spectacular.
Thanks and respect to all involved with the whole thing - Dunedin ride down on the Friday, Nene valley guys and RTTW for the event, the company of Harley people, bikers and everyone else on the day
