Hi folks
Few of us from the proper NE thinking of making a raid on the southern pretenders. Is it worth going too? All feedback gratefully received.

Anyone know what time the ride out is. We're thinking about running down on Saturday morning but think we might miss ride out.
Thinh we're going to go A68, is that still covered with loads of speed cameras or is A1 the better route?
Cheers everybody for the input

The A1 is a good road now, we always stop for a break at "The Cedar Tree" truck stop by Grantshouse, about 15 miles short of Berwick. :D
PS. Not sure of the time of the rideout.

Cheers Journeyman.
Is it a quicker road than the A68? We'll have a couple of girls with us on Sporty Lows so mileage vs time on bikes is kinda critiical as are tea & scone stops apparently although my mate always prefers a beer.

A far better road than the A68. And it practically takes you to the door.

Who needs showers???? Don't worry about it, it has been our experience that after 12 hours we all smell the same anyway. Shower when you get home......
The present Mrs Journeman says its a "wipes weekend"............ ;)

A1 is way to go. Speed cameras are all obvious if you are looking and facing ones are fun when they flash at you!!!
Agree with Cedarwood cafe just watch out for diesel as you enter and leave.

There seems to be a lot of people concerned about showers I always thought
the jockey quarters showers were for all to use, I would ask about these if camping

See you ther JTF (I won't hold you to the "buy a round thing", I don't want to be resonsible for cancelling your weekend in panic).

;) Good grief man you have no idea the wailing & gnashing of teeth that you're suggestion of getting a round in caused up here in NE Scotland. NHS 24 were overwhelmed by calls from worried Aberdonians concerned that this new idea could be contagious!:eek:

" Ride out" mare like the cannonball run, fastest ride out l've ever been on, and don't think much about the marshalls riding skills, saw a few close ones.

There were a few comments like that from our friends from Preston.
Very fast, Uncontroled, and got worse from Durham.
I heard 2 stories of the crash,
1. all ok no injuries
2. one broken arm and one broken leg.
Having watched it happen when a roadking hits a smaller big (sportster?) that hard it has to hurt!!
Good route 10/10.

We didn't go to Heart n Soul this year but have been for the past couple of years. After a chat with one of the locals, we decided not to do the ride out the first year and never have - sounds like it may have been good advice! We usually have a run to the local dealers instead.
Pity about the rideout leaving 30 mins early - well early according to programme - some of the Geordie committee did not know the issue but spoke to one of their guys and it was a printer error !
Other than that enjoyed it very much

Just heard from a Geordie Road Captain, both riders ok, bruises and cuts. But now home safe.
Who knows about next years, 12 months to decide!

I' ve been on many a rideout over the last 7 years with the geordie chapter
from Oban to fort william, york etc and their road marshalling was second to none. They do ride a bit fast and tight for some and it was not the first time I heard this at the rally. The marshalls usually do the riders edge training. I heard this year they were struggling to get numbers and this put stress on the marshalls some times having to travel quite a distance to get up front and there were riders not letting the marshals past which made things difficult and apparently the police had some part in it too. Marshalls should all have reasonable biking skills with maybe about 3 years riding there are too many who pass the test get the big twin and are road marshalling the next year. They see the green vest as a license to thrash by everyone like demons possessed. Maybe the more experienced members should have a rethink before handing out the vest.

I would agree that the main issue was the ride out. Major problem for me was having to use the A1 a couple of times On a Saturday that was always going to lead to problems. Once out in the country the roads were on the whole good & scenery, mostly seen as a high speed blur looked nice! Also 82 miles seemed a bit on the ambitious side considering a fair bit of time would be spent in Duram & Newcastle. Thank God it was dry cos those cobbles in Durham would have been lethal. Saw quite a few of the marshals having to take chances as they tanked on to get to their next point.
Main thing is the folk involved in the accident are reasonably OK
We'll be going back next year - just might not do the ride out. Especially if they can't decide the time to start, & don't mention the hungry so & so's who must have wolfed all the food before half the ride out got to the dealers!!!
